Living DNA (the company I selected) has provided a wealth of information. As a relatively new entrant into the market its product is still evolving and additional detail/features will be added to the results over time as their knowledge and DNA database expands.
I still haven’t processed all information at my fingertips at the moment and there’s simply too much to cover in a blog so for those who are interested, I’ve pulled out and summarised the bits that fasinated me on a separate section of my website. Logically it makes sense to split it along similar lines to how Living DNA presents the data;
MY DNA Ancestry (Overview)
Family History (Autosomal DNA)
Motherline (mitochondrial DNA)
Fatherline (Y chromosome DNA)
Hopefully once I get the download of raw DNA sorted I’ll be doing some additional analysis via reputable web based tools such as GEDmatch.
In the meantime I hope you enjoy reading my ‘brief’ summary of the wealth of information I’ve been provided with. Obviously it raises some very interesting questions about my past and apparent absence of Italian heritage despite very obvious links to Italy. However at the end of the day whatever my ancestors (near or distant) got up doesn’t really change anything because as this test ultimately proves we are all part of the same human family.
And despite the genetic links to Scotland I don’t think I’m going to be wearing a kilt anytime soon although given the connection to Scandinavia I quite fancy a trip to Lerwick in Shetland for Up Helly Aa (even if its a realtively modern festival that has nothing whatsoever to do with Vikings).
