Despite all the negative publicity Windows 8/8.1 has received over the last few months I have to say the process of transferring all my files and programmes from our other Windows 7 PC to the new machine was a painless process. All my important software and files are now safely on the new machine and pined to the taskbar for easy access. The learning curve was far less steep than the internet would have you believe, perhaps helped by my familiarly with the tiled interface of windows phone.
Personally I still prefer the desktop and a full sized keyboard and mouse for serious uses such as writing and programming. Although I will try and resist the temptation to get on my soapbox about how the walled garden of the tablet and Smartphone app is turning us into passive consumers of content whose experience of the world around is curated by whosever ecosystem we happen to have signed up to. That said, not without a touch of irony and perhaps hypocrisy, I'm now totally hooked on Windows phone with my new Lumia 920, having previously been an Android fanboy.
Best of all once I stop playing with my new toys it means we now have two fully functional desktop PC's, now all I need to do is perform a factory reset on our Windows 7 laptop to get it running and there is really no excuse up my productivity and get Exiles finished. Which indecently is a third of the way through its first revision and has a completely new epilogue.
